The Five-Second Trust Test

A simple, free exercise: show your homepage to a stranger for five seconds, then ask three questions. What you learn will tell you more than any design opinion ever could.

The five-second trust test.

You don't need a design degree to know if your website works. You need a stranger, a stopwatch, and three questions.

Show someone who's never seen your site your homepage for five seconds. Then close the tab and ask: What does this business do? Who is it for? What would you click next?

If they hesitate on any of the three, that's not a small thing to fix later — it's the whole problem. A visitor who can't answer those questions in five seconds doesn't stick around to answer them in fifteen.

Run it before you take our word for anything

We built a free instant site audit for exactly this reason — so you don't have to take a designer's opinion on faith. Run your site through it, or just grab a stranger in a coffee shop. Either way, five seconds tells you more than a mood board ever will.
